Foodie For Life

Food. Food has been a joy of mine since I was a little girl. I am not joking either. I would sit in the kitchen as my mother would flitter to and fro making her staple curry chicken and rice and beans. Never did I miss her cooking session and never did I miss a plate. Each day, my mother would quiz me on what was missing from the season. Whether that be chicken bouillon, paprika, Caribbean pepper, or just some salt.

My Original Home-cooking

Growing Up

Growing up, though, I didn’t have much to eat as I lived in a single-parent household with 2 other children. Even though I was only the youngest, I would always make sure my siblings and mother was fed but me, I put myself on the back burner.

I grew to enjoy cooking growing up, as I could pour my love for my family into my food. Even though many of my siblings hated cooking (almost with a passion), they made sure to always pay their respects to the chef. Whether it was a simple thank you or a “You did good kid.”, I was happy to help and happy to do something that I enjoyed.

Trying Different Cuisines

Exploring Flavors, Cultures, and Foods

Usually, I spend a lot of time looking into meals and meal preparation since I crave to try different foods, flavors, and cultures through the meals that I cook. It’s been an amazing experience trying to imitate a Korean kimbap bowl with what I have in the fridge, or to just to stick to something simple for a quick breakfast.

Not only do I love to cook, but I also love to eat. Or, more specifically, I love to savor. I can tell what each ingredient was used and about how much. Whether that is some onion, garlic, or even some aromatics like cilantro and/or some type of garnish. I experiment with my seasonings to get different tastes and for it to be layered. I don’t want to just taste heat. I want to taste the spices and herbs. The zest. The sprinkle of love, even. I want to not only show love for food but also want to pour love into it as well.

Well, this is my spiel for food. It’s a magic and in a realm all on it’s own.
